vGIS Activation Link Fails And Opens App Store Instead (KB-TT011)
Issue
The activation link is taking me to the App Store even though the vGIS Utilities app is already installed on the device.
Solution
There are multiple factors that can prevent a link from opening in the mobile app on your device.
Firefox
If your default browser is set to Firefox, make sure Firefox is configured to open links in apps.
- Tap the Menu button (Fig. 1)
- Tap Settings
- Scroll down to the Advanced section, next to Open links in apps use the slider button to turn this ON (Fig. 2)

Chrome
- Go to Settings
- Tap on Apps and Notifications
- Expand on Advance
- Tap on Default apps
- Expand on Opening links
- Scroll to Chrome
- Tap on Clear defaults
Next time you tap on the activation link the system should ask with which app to open it with.
iOS Devices
iOS devices can typically only open "universal links" (links that should open in-app) if the link is accessed from within one of the following applications:
- Apple's native Mail app
- Safari app
When the activation link is accessed from any other application on an iOS device the links may open in the browser instead of the vGIS Utilities app. Switching Safari to "Mobile" mode usually resolves the issue (Fig. 3 and Fig. 4).
