A Quick Guide on vGIS using Mixed Reality Headsets (KB-MR001)
Getting Started
vGIS currently runs on the following MR (Mixed Reality) headsets:
This guide will help you navigate through the user interface quickly to get you started on the job site or office. Firstly, you will want to ensure you have the "Meemim vGIS" downloaded from the device's app store. Once the application is opened you will sign in with your current vGIS credentials. You will be greeted with a Company/ Team Selection screen. Pinch and scroll to move the table down if you don't see your team.
Once a team is selected you will begin Calibration, you will see the following options:
Detect Position: At the top right of the map, this target icon will bring the map to where you are currently position based on your geographic location.
Default Position: Map will show the location of the default coordinates assigned to that team (good for QA testing).
Select Your Position: Confirms the point located on the map is where you will jump into the MR environment.
Select Point of View (optional): Pin/ Place the point where the direction of view will be when you jump into MR. Note: after selecting the point of view, you can tap the Zoom icon to bring you closer to the selected area, adjust accordingly).
Look at the Point (optional): Choose your directional alignment using the vertical green line in the center of view. Align with a reference point in the selected area and click to continue.
Zoom In/ Out: Brings you closer or farther away from the map. the closer you get, the marker will eventually ask you to confirm location, that is where you will appear in MR. (Note: you can jump to the closest possible Zoom by selecting the magnifying glass icon after making your first pin selection).
Skip Calibration: To skip the pin and direction process mentioned above.
Once calibration is complete, you will load the teams datasource and it should appear in front of you.
Main Menu
For Hololens 2, lifting your arm will trigger the vGIS Menu Interface. For Magic Leap 2, the standard menu button on the controller will activate the menu. Below is a breakdown of your options:
Layers: This universal vGIS option allows the user to control what data they want to put in view. It's important to remember these datasources must be configured to the right Layer Group in the Admin Portal.
3D Map: This allows you to see yourself immersed in your digital environment. This perspective allows you to make efficient adjustments to make better decisions from a different point of view. Click Here to learn more.
Tools: There are a few tools on the Hololens 2 ready for the user:
Field Reports: Take images of what you are viewing to send it back into the Field Reports database in the Admin Portal.
Set Distance: Specify the distance to which you can view data. The greater the distance, the more data your device will be processing at once.
Tracker: A simple yet multipurpose tool that can help track the distance travelled. This menu can be revisited to get updated figures as you move around the job site.
Reality Capture: Opens a menu similar to Layer Groups to enable/ disable scans from the MR environment.
Adjust: Two sliders will appear, the one on the right adjusts the elevation, and the slider at the bottom changes the horizontal rotation/ line of sight.
Recalibrate: Brings you back to the initial calibration screen.
Settings: Below are the setting options:
Projections: displays the 3D projections (None, Active, All)
Surface Grid: (None, Active, All)
Landscape Switch: Switch between flat world and terrain
GNSS Switch: Enables the GNSS device currently connected to the headset
Log Out: Takes you back to the login screen
Help: Opens a browser window to the vGIS Support Center. This is where users can read through a knowledge base of articles or open a ticket to the support team.
Team Selector: Takes you out of your current team to select another one to jump into.
