Tips For Retaining High-Accuracy While Moving in AR (KB-TT003)
vGIS AR is designed for field work. To make the most of the system, it is important to understand the best practices for using the system in the field.
Accuracy Improvement Tips
To make the most of the vGIS AR experience, please follow these guidelines when moving around:
- Ensure an accurate orientation (heading) during calibration.
- Walk in a straight line.
- Check your position before making turns.
- Follow the recommendations in this manual when walking at an angle.
Ensuring An Accurate Azimuth (Heading) During Calibration
Calibration is the key to accuracy. If the second step of calibration (heading selection) is done imprecisely, an object's location relative to the user’s position might be misaligned. For example, when moving from point A to point B (Fig. 1), the user may end up at point C.
Tip: To address this issue, ensure accurate calibration and check your location upon reaching the destination.

Walking In A Straight Line
The current distance-tracking algorithms have a 2–8% margin of error. To minimize the error, it is suggested that you move in straight lines. Moving along straight lines results in a more precise arrival destination; the actual object may be slightly closer or further away than expected, but the user will pass directly over it or see it straight ahead, which helps when making quick adjustments.
Making Turns
If the situation dictates changing the direction of travel, it is recommended that the user’s location be validated by clicking on the “Map” button prior to making the turn. In case of a location discrepancy, please recalibrate.
Walking At An Angle
If the situation demands walking at an angle or over a curved trajectory, select a waypoint along the travel path, and validate your location upon reaching the waypoint by clicking on the map button. In case of a location discrepancy based on the aerial map view, please recalibrate.
