Fixing Twisted/ Misshapen Lines And Pipes (KB-GI003)
Problem
Occasionally, lines and pipes in vGIS may appear twisted or misshapen. The effect is often due to the data source containing the “polyline” geometry with multiple patches per feature (Fig. 1).
Fig. 1
Cause
When drawing visuals, vGIS combines all paths together to draw a single line, which results in separate line segments being connected (Fig. 2).
Fig. 2
Solution
To resolve the geometry issue with polylines, use the Split Line at Vertices geoprocessing tool within the Data Management toolbox in ArcGIS (ArcMap/ArcGIS Pro). The line features that need to be fixed will be used as the input features of this geoprocessing tool. The output will be the features that should be published to a REST service, which can be used as the correct input for vGIS Utilities.
Note: The Split Line at Vertices geoprocessing tool is available only with an advanced license.
