Data Collection: App User (KB-AM016)
Data Collection allows users to add objects into the vGIS system while navigating the augmented reality environment. Only Datasources who have been given permission to perform data collection actions will be able to access this feature from the main menu.
Interface Overview
After entering AR in vGIS, tap the Tools button and select Data Collection.
A menu will then appear with a section of entries (Area, Manhole, Marker, Outline, Pipe, Pole, and Valve) (1). The Search Bar at the top of this menu can be used to narrow down the selection (2). Note: there are tabs above this menu, as you enter new models these tabs will start to populate for easy navigation (3).
Once the preferred object has been selected, users will be taken to the augmented reality environment. The user will need to place the object in the desired location.
Back in AR, you will see the following options:
- Accuracy Bubble - Reveals your location at all times with added accuracy when GNSS is connected.
- Screen Capture - When tapped, will collect screenshots that will be oriented in vSite while also adding to the data entry back at the Admin Portal.
- Undo/Redo - When tapped, reveals both options to edit data collections on-the-fly.
- Action Bar - Default label will be the name of the chosen asset. Tap to edit attributes of new entry.
- Data Collection Cursor - Point of reference when adding the next data entry.
- Elevation/ Depth Slider - Collapsed by default. Tap to reveal slider that adjusts where the cursor will place the next data entry along the z axis.
- Center Button - Enabled by default to keep the cursor at the center of user's device - tap to disable and manually place the cursor along a detected surface for the next data entry (slide fingers across the screen to align on the X or Y axis).
- Done - When all data collection is complete, tap to send entry to the vGIS Admin Portal.
- Close - If tapped, will close out the current data entry (changes will be discarded if not saved).
Editing Information Cards & Adding Attributes
In the Action Bar, notice the name of data entry and its current position in the real world, tap to reveal the object's Information card. From here users can modify the objects type, size, and height. The action bar also has a floor detection button, tap this to reset the floor level for accurate data collection (Note: GNSS RTK devices will deliver the fastest and most accurate floor level detection). To finalize the data collection process, enter the attribute values of the object. Upon completion, press Done and the object will be saved.
