High-Precision GNSS/RTK Settings (KB-GI009)
Overview
vGIS supports external GNSS and RTK devices for enhanced precision. Jobs that typically require high-precision hardware include high-accuracy work with survey-grade data, inspections of long pipelines and precision construction. This guide will help you understand the settings in the vGIS AR application.
First, you'll need to enable a high-precision GNSS/RTK device by connecting it to your phone or tablet using the Bluetooth or cable and, in case of some devices, running a separate background app. If you would like to read more about the initial GNSS setup and configuration, click here.
First: Optimize GNSS Settings for High Accuracy
There are settings you can change (where applicable) that will enhance the accuracy and overall experience of the vGIS AR platform. These settings would be set in your hardware's setting menus.
The updates are detailed below:
- NMEA Settings (GGA and GST): 10Hz or 10x per second to increase frequent of placement updates.
- Antenna Settings/ Usage: Changing from "upright/pole" to "Handheld". Note this is to be used when using a quick-release GNSS holster attached to your mobile device (as seen in this video).
Enabling GNSS in vGIS AR
First, Tap the Menu button.
Enable the GNSS button, then Tap Options.
Using the Positioning Mode menu, select from a catalogue of various GNSS suppliers (or other external Bluetooth devices), the vGIS External Mock Mode, or Internal Compass/ GPS positioning.
When the selection is made, Close the menu to save changes.
