ArcGIS Feature/Map Service configuration (KB-AP033)

To configure your ArcGIS data source

  1. Click on the "synchronize structure" button in the top left.
  2. Select the first layer from the list.
  3. Although the system has multiple settings that can be adjusted to modify visuals, for the first set we recommend focusing on:
    • Color - sets the color for the 3D object in the vGIS app
    • Layer Group - allows grouping of objects into specific layers in the vGIS app
    • Default Depth/Elevation - assign the default depth or elevation of an object layer. This number sets the 3D object base with respect to the surface. Positive numbers indicate above ground (elevation), negative numbers placing object underground (depth), and zero being the ground level.
    • Object Shape - assign the form of a point object layer when displayed
    • Object Height and Object Width - set the object size
  4. Repeat the configuration step for each layer. Depending on your data set, some values such as colors, might be pre-set automatically based on your feature service configuration.
  5. Assign layer groups
    • Layer groups organize objects so that vGIS users can turn multiple objects on and off at once. For example, if your data set contains water, sewer, and storm water assets, you may create Water, Sewer, and Storm Water layer groups to combine related assets in just three groups. You can always create more layer groups later.
    • Adding Layers: To add a new layer group, click on the global "+" sign on the top left corner of the portal and select the Layer Group option. Complete the setup wizard and click "Save". To learn more about Layer Groups and how and why to apply them, follow this link.
  6. Add data source to a team
    • Data sources need to be enabled for teams before they can be visualized in the vGIS App. Data sources can be added to a team in two ways:
      • From the Data Source configuration screen >> Use the Teams tab to enable the data source for a specific Team/Project.
      • From the Teams/Projects menu >> Create or select an existing Team/project. Use the Data Sources tab to enable the specific data sources needed for this team.

  7. Once done, click "Update" in the upper right corner, followed by "Process Data".
