Hint - Setting the Coordinate System Using EPSG Codes (KB-HNT002)
To accurately display georeferenced data, vGIS needs to know which coordinate system was used in its initial design. To set the coordinate system, enter the appropriate EPSG code into the Coordinate System field (Fig. 1).
EPSG stands for European Petroleum Survey Group (https://epsg.io/) - an organization that maintains a geodetic parameter database with standard code for global coordinate systems, assigning a unique number to each of them.
Normally, your designer should be able to provide this code. If not, a quick google search with the name of your coordinate system and the word EPSG should provide you with the code, e.g. search Google for "California state plane zone 6 EPSG."
The coordinate system for the following data formats should be assigned at the Root level:
- DWG (Vector)
The coordinate system for the following data formats should be assigned at the model level:
- IFC
- DWG (3D Objects)
- Autodesk Build (formerly BIM360)
