vSite Admin Portal: Datasource Visibility Options
Overview
When importing or editing a Datasource, Company Administrators can configure visibility settings to control how data is shared across projects. These options balance collaboration with security, ensuring sensitive information is only available to authorized users.
Visibility Levels Explained:
| Setting | Managed By | Accessed By | When to Use |
| Anyone in my Organization | Company Administrators Only | Any Project with Company Asset Access enabled | When an asset (e.g., base map or datasource) is shared among multiple Projects, and editing should be limited to only a few individuals with elevated admin permission (Company Administrators) |
| Shared with Other Projects | Company and Project Administrators | Any Project with Company Asset Access Enabled | Decentralized companies, when an asset is shared among multiple projects, and editing is delegated to a single "owner" project. |
| My Project Only | Company and Project Administrators | Data Access restricted to a specific Project (must be identified) | Situations where a Project works under an NDA, and all assets must be kept confidential, even from members of the same organization. |
Supplementary Notes
These visibility options can be changed at any time by Company Administrators.
- Visibility can only be moved up levels (i.e become more visible), but they cannot be restricted once this is done.
Restrictive settings (e.g., My Project Only) are recommended for projects involving sensitive client data or legal confidentiality agreements.
Broad access settings (e.g., Anyone in My Organization) are useful for shared resources like base maps, reference layers, or frequently used datasets.
