vSite Admin Portal: Exporting 3D Scans in Different Coordinate Systems
Overview
vSite allows you to export 3D scans into a variety of coordinate systems while preserving accurate elevation. To ensure precision, it’s critical that your GNSS device settings and vSite project settings are aligned. This guide explains the required configurations and steps.
Coordinate System Workflow
When scan data is uploaded into vSite, it undergoes the following transformations:
Device Coordinate System – GNSS receiver applies its configured coordinate system.
vSite Internal Coordinate System – Data is transformed into vSite’s internal reference system.
Exported Coordinate System – Data is exported to the coordinate system you specify.
Key Point: To maintain vertical (elevation) accuracy through all stages, your GNSS device datum and vSite Team/Project datum setting must match.
How To Export with Accurate Elevation
Step 1 – Verify Your GNSS Device’s Vertical Datum
-
Open your GNSS companion app (specific to the receiver manufacturer).
Example: Leica FLX100 devices use the Zeno Connect app.
-
In the app, check the vertical datum in use.
In Zeno Connect: navigate to Coordinate System > Geoid Model.
Record this configuration for later.
Tip: Refer to the Supported GNSS Receivers List
Step 2 – Match Settings in vSite Portal
Log in to the vSite Admin Portal.
Navigate to Team/Project Settings (Fig. 1).
Scroll to Default CRS and UoM.
In the GNSS Datum field, select the same datum identified in Step 1.
Note: This setting may differ from your eventual export coordinate system. The important part is that your GNSS device datum (Step 1) and Team/Project GNSS datum (Step 2) must match to ensure correct transformations.
Step 3 – Collect Scans
Collect scans as usual using your configured device.
vSite will interpret the GNSS data based on the settings applied in Step 2.
Step 4 – Export Scans
When exporting, specify the vertical datum you want applied to the exported file (Fig. 2).
Once the correct vertical datum is applied, right-click the scan and export.

Consistency Across Devices
If multiple GNSS receivers are being used on the same project, confirm that all devices are configured with the same coordinate system settings.
OEM defaults may differ.
Manual alignment ensures consistency across scans.
Post-Collection Adjustments
If scans were collected with incorrect datum settings:
Update the datum in vSite for individual scans or apply changes across multiple scans.
This retroactive correction ensures data consistency without re-collection.
