vSite Web: Maps
Overview
The Maps panel in vSite Web allows users to customize the visual appearance of the platform to suit specific workflows. From adjusting base maps to managing terrain settings, these tools help enhance clarity, performance, and visibility, especially when working with complex datasets.
How To
To open the Maps panel, click the Maps icon in the left-hand menu of vSite Web (Fig. 1)

Map Options
Toggle Map Visibility
Enable or disable the display of the base map as needed. Turning the map off can be helpful when focusing on underground data.
Dim on Zoom
When enabled, the base map dims as you zoom closer to the surface. This helps reduce brightness and glare during close-up views of data.
Map Selector
Choose your preferred base map. The default option is ArcGIS World, but additional map styles include:
ArcGIS Street
Bing Aerial
Bing Road
OpenStreetMap
Transparency Slider
Adjust the transparency level of the base map to enhance visibility of 3D and subsurface data. This is especially useful when working with dense or overlapping datasets.
Buildings Toggle
Show or hide 3D building representations. Buildings are enabled by default but can be turned off to improve visibility of underlying or nearby features.
Google 3D Tiles
Enable enhanced 3D visualization of real-world surface features such as buildings, trees, and terrain.
Note: Google 3D Tiles are disabled by default to avoid visual clutter, especially when working with subsurface infrastructure, as these tiles are opaque and will obscure underground data.
Terrain Options
DTM Offset
Modify the elevation of the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) for better data alignment and visualization. You can:
Enter a positive or negative offset value (in meters), or
Use the slider to dynamically raise or lower the terrain.
Terrain Selector
Choose from several terrain models based on your project needs:
Cesium (default)
Ellipsoid
Estonian 5m DTM
Dutch National DTM 50cm
