vSite Admin Portal: Uploading Point Clouds
vSite supports uploading point clouds in .LAS format for integration into your digital twin environment. Point clouds must be zipped (.zip) before upload and can be added either directly from your device or via a link to external cloud storage.
How To: Upload a Point Cloud
Step 1 – Navigate to the Point Clouds Section
In the vSite Admin Portal, open the side menu and select Point Clouds. Select the Point Clouds tab at the top of the page (Fig. 1).
Step 2 – Add a New Point Cloud
Click Add Point Cloud (Fig. 1).
Enter a unique name for your point cloud.
Select the project it belongs to from the drop-down list.
Step 3 – Upload Your File
You can upload your point cloud in one of two ways (Fig. 2):
Direct Upload – Attach your
.zipfile containing the.laspoint cloud.Cloud Link – Paste a link to the file in your external cloud storage location (recommended for large files).
Step 4 – Enter Metadata
On the right-hand side of the upload panel (Fig. 3), fill in the following required fields:
Date of Scan – When the point cloud was captured.
EPSG Code – Defines the coordinate system used during georeferencing.
Vertical Datum – Specifies the height reference model applied.
Step 5 – Save and Process
Click Save to begin processing.
The point cloud will show a yellow “Pending” notification while processing.
Once processing is complete, the status will update to green “Successful.”
You can now open your project in vSite Web to view the point cloud overlaid on the base map (Fig. 5).
Troubleshooting
If processing fails and a “Failed” message appears:
Confirm that your file is zipped (.zip) and contains a valid .las point cloud.
Ensure the point cloud is properly georeferenced with correct EPSG and vertical datum settings.
For very large files, try using a cloud link upload instead of a direct upload.
You do not need to keep the Admin Portal open during processing. You can safely close it and return later to check the status.
