Functionalities in Map View
Search
Use the search button in the upper-right corner to view infrastructure in another location by entering an address or intersection. A pin will be dropped at the searched location.
Map searches are powered by the Google Maps Search API.
Layers
Under the Layers menu, users can toggle visibility for specific BIM/GIS layers.
A special layer called Field Reports shows real-world findings captured on site.
See Layers for more details.
Basemaps
The Basemaps button allows the user to change the basemap that is displayed in Map View.
By default, the following basemaps are available:
- ESRI
- Street
- Hybrid
- OSM (OpenStreetMap)

If the device hasn't been calibrated during the current session, the system will prompt the user to calibrate.
See Calibrating Your Device for more details.
Accuracy Bubble
In some situations, the AR calibration may not accurately reflect your real-world location. This could be due to:
- Poor lighting
- Inconsistent device handling
- Movement during calibration
The Accuracy Bubble, can be enabled or disabled in Options. It displays GIS accuracy in either meters or feet:
- Grey Gauge: No GNSS device connected
- Green Gauge: Accuracy ≤ 0.1 meters (0.3 feet)
- Yellow Gauge: Accuracy ≤ 1.0 meter (3.3 feet)
- Red Gauge: Accuracy > 1.0 meter
Use the Adjustments feature to manually refine your location if needed.
Gestures and Interactions
- Pinch to zoom in or out
- Twist to rotate the overhead map
- Drag to pan across the map
- Tap Re-Center to return to your current location if you scroll too far
Using Maps for Location Validation
Periodically switching from AR to Map View while walking helps validate your location accuracy.
For example, after walking 20 meters along a sidewalk, your location on the map should reflect that movement. If not, tap the Positioning Adjustment button to correct it.
Additional Map View Features
- Object colors match those in AR view
- The map shows objects above and below ground level
- When many objects are clustered in one location, a number count appears instead of individual objects for clarity
