vSite AR: Data Collection
Overview
The Data Collection tool in vGIS allows authorized users to add new objects directly into the system while working in the augmented reality environment. Only data sources with the appropriate permissions can access this feature from the main menu.

How To
Access Data Collection in AR view
Enter AR View in the vSite AR app.
Tap the Tools button (Fig. 1) and select Data Collection (Fig. 2)
Select an Object in AR view
- A menu will appear (Fig. 3) with a section of available entries (1). Fig. 3 contains a sample set of some of the customizable options, including:
- Area
- Manhole
- Marker
- Outline
- Pipe
- Pole
- Valve
Use the Search Bar at the top of the menu (2) to narrow down your selection.
Above the menu, a Recent Bar will appear (3), populated with layers that have been previously selected.

Placing Objects in AR
After selecting an object, you will return to the augmented reality environment to place it in the desired location.
While placing objects, you will see the following interface options (Fig. 4):
Accuracy Bubble: Displays your current location with enhanced accuracy when GNSS is connected.
Screen Capture: Captures a screenshot, which is saved to the data entry and the Admin Portal.
Edit Options: Quickly edit data collections in real time.
Action Bar: Shows the default label (asset name). Tap to edit attributes for the new entry.
Data Collection Cursor: Indicates where the next data entry will be placed.
Elevation/Depth Slider: Collapsed by default; tap to adjust the cursor’s placement along the Z-axis.
Center Button: Keeps the cursor centered by default. Tap to disable and manually place the cursor along detected surfaces (use a finger to align on the X or Y axis).
Add: Adds a point to your selected data type.
Close: Cancels the current data entry. Unsaved changes will be discarded.
Done: Finalizes data collection and sends the entry to the vGIS Admin Portal.

Edit Options in AR
By selecting the Edit Options menu shown in Fig. 4, a new menu will appear (Fig. 5). Here you can:
- Redo an action.
- Undo an action.
- Toggle on an off measurement indicators.
- Move the selected point.
- Delete the selected point.

Editing Information Cards & Attributes
In the Action Bar (Fig. 6), tap the asset name to open its Information Card (Fig. 7). Here, you can add various attribute information depending on the object type. Including:
- width
- depth
- diameter
- type
When finished, tap Done to save the object.

Access Data Collection in Map View
- Enter Map View in the vGIS app.
- Tap the Tools button (Fig. 1) and select Data Collection (Fig. 2)
Placing Objects in Map view
- Select the feature you wish to add
- A bubble will appear in the top left (Fig. 8) that will assist in the hands-free data collection method in Map View.
- Hold the device still directly above the feature until the bubble is centered and green. If the feature type has multiple points (line, cable, area, etc.) continue on to the next point and repeat until all points are captured. The device will automatically collect the points without the need for intermediate steps. For a video demonstration, click here.
