vSite AR: Main User Interface
Overview
The Main User Interface in vSite AR allows app users to view and interact with real-time 3D holographic overlays of BIM and GIS data directly in the field. This interface combines AR tools, object details, map views, and accuracy indicators to help you visualize, inspect, and verify infrastructure data with confidence.
How To
View Infrastructure in Augmented Reality
Once you enter AR View, you can see 3D holographic overlays of BIM and GIS data superimposed onto your device’s real-world camera view (Fig. 1).
Fig. 1
- The surrounding infrastructure appears in full 3D.
- Objects may display as symbols — for example, vertical cylinders marking the center point of an asset — or as lines, pipes, and areas.
- Manholes and water inlets appear as concrete cylinders or “boxes” with colored covers to show the surface top.
Street-Level and Subsurface Objects:
- Objects at street level (zero elevation) show a base circle to indicate the object’s location.
- Objects above or below street level display trace lines (dashed lines) or “bulls-eye” circles where they intersect with the road surface. Trace lines help you visualize the depth and position of subsurface elements, like pipes.
GNSS Accuracy Indicator
- Grey Circle: No GNSS device is connected.
- Flashing Green Indicator: GNSS Device is connecting.
- Green Indicator: Accuracy is within 0.1 meters (0.3 feet) or better.
- Yellow Indicator: Accuracy is within 1.0 meter (3.3 feet) or better.
- Red Indicator: Accuracy is greater than 1.0 meters.
Main Menu
Tap the Main Menu button to access the main menu screen, which offers additional tools and features. See Main Menu.
Map View
Tap the Map View button to switch to an aerial map of your site. See Map View.
Crosshair
The Crosshair allows you to select and preview objects within the AR environment. When hovering over an object:
- An Object Bubble will appear.
- The system displays the object’s depth (underneath the object) and distance (beside the object).
Object Details:
- The first line of the object bubble shows the object type.
- The second line shows specifics, such as the object’s ID or material.
- Your company’s administrator defines these headers and details through the Admin Portal.
To view full details, tap the object bubble to open the Object Information Card.
AR Sliders
The AR sliders allow you to adjust the visibility of 3D objects. The left and right sliders can be customized to control:
- Transparency
- Crosssections
- Occlusions
You can disable one or both of the sliders in Options>System. For more information on AR Sliders, click here.

Position Accuracy and Adjustments
In some situations, the calibration process may not provide a fully accurate 3D representation of your position. This can happen due to:
- Unfavorable light conditions
- How the device is held
- Unexpected movements during calibration
To correct this, use the Adjustment feature to make small manual tweaks for improved display accuracy.
